Start Becoming Independent Cam Girl

by Alex Shwarz on August 26, 2009 · 0 comments

independent-cam-girlIf you are working on cam sites like Cams.com or LiveJasmin and getting 30-35% from what you’re earning it’s time to start becoming independent. And as I mentioned before the reason you are dependent on these sites is because they have huge visitors traffic that your earnings depend on.

So what are the opportunities when you have your own traffic? With your own traffic you have to pay commission only for utilizing web cam platform that allows you to perform your cam shows. And this commission is much lower than you pay to cam sites you work on (around 25-35%). So basically you’ll be getting 65-75% of your earnings. Or some cam models using instant messengers (IMs) like Skype or Yahoo and getting even larger share.

So how can you get this traffic? First of all there is no easy way. You’ll have to work hard for at least 2-3 months to see the results. But when you look at how much time you spend in free chats and not getting any privates you can afford to spend a couple of hours a day to invest in your future.

First of all you need to start your blog under your own domain name. This is your own private home on the Internet where you can do whatever you want. You will not find this freedom on social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Plus blog is the easiest form of web site to set up and update.

Then you need to update your blog regularly with fresh and interesting content. By content I mean short articles accompanied by pictures and video. This is where you’ll have to spend half of dedicated time. The other half you need to spend on promoting your blog everywhere you can – social networks, blog directories, forums, other blogs, etc. If you keep doing this your blog will grow fast, you’ll get thousands of returning visitors who’ll be looking forward for your next show. Then you can start membership site but it’s another story …

So, don’t waste your time. Go towards becoming independent!

The Pros and Cons to Streaming Through IMs

by Alex Shwarz on July 15, 2009 · 0 comments

Independently streaming your webcam shows is not as hard as it may seem. There are both benefits and disadvantages when it comes to choosing not to go through adult cam sites directly and you’ll find most of them below:

The Pros

  1. http://download.skype.com/share/siteimages/skype2-videocall.pngThe benefits, or pros as we’ll call them here, include the freedom and less time consuming role you have running through an instant messenger (IM) like Skype, MSN, Yahoo, etc. With adult cam sites, you are usually required to sit in front of the screen at your computer chatting and ‘wooing’ surfers, waiting for someone to bite and buy a private chat. Having your cam set up to work through an IM cuts out the warming-up process, you can decide whether or not to provide a cam preview for him and he pays before he gets the show (either by your own methods or through the adult cam site). Unlike the free cam previews most adult cam sites make you provide, you’ll get to know what the guy wants.
  2. Having your clients on your own IM contacts list makes repeat customers easier to recognize and also gives the client a more discreet and convenient way to keep you indexed as he won’t need to bookmark your site to contact you next time he requires your services.
  3. Another pro is the cost – it’s free! If you have your own webcam business, the cost of a third party plugin is removed, leaving a lot less overheads and more room to make a profit. This is great especially if you’re just starting out and aren’t sure if you want to pursue this as a career. It’s also simple to integrate into your own site by just creating a separate page to list your IM identities.

The Cons

  1. http://media1.break.com/dnet/media/2008/10/37%20Cute%20Girl%20On%20Webcam.jpgThe first con that comes with streaming through any IM account – you will get freeloaders and timewasters who will add you to their account and not even attempt to talk to you. The last thing you want is a big list of contacts with only a few of these being actual paying clients, so it’s best that you decline the contact additions at first and add them individually when you perform on cam for them.
  2. Every streaming video, irrelevant of the program running it, can be recorded. Having a video streaming through your IM can enable even a technologically inept person to record your shows if there is a button near the video telling them they can. This is almost impossible to stop, however to deter someone from recording your webcam session, you can watermark the video using Manycam, putting your site URL into the video itself, both preventing him from trying to brand it with a different site and also giving you free advertising if he DOES upload it to a tube site, forum or alike. Splitcam can help in a similar way too, adding his email address or real name into your image or video, exposing his own identity on the recorded footage.
  3. Anonymous chat requests can be common (and another con) to running your webcam business through an IM as sometimes guys just want to talk (timewasters). Once you feel you want to get on with business, a subtle hint such as “so what you wanna do now? Horny? :-)” will let him either break the conversation off or ‘upgrade’ to a paid cam show. Try not to let the loquacious guests divert the reason you’re actually talking to them.

While there are pros and cons to having your webcam shows go through an instant messenger, your attitude towards it will help you decide if either of them outweigh the other. But conclusively, it is definitely less time consuming than working through a cam site’s “free chat” system, it is free, easy to use and should definitely be considered as an alternative to running your cam through a site or plugin.

P.S. Thanks to Jasmine for providing a lot of useful info on this subject

Hosting Your Webcam Shows Through IMs

by Alex Shwarz on June 30, 2009 · 0 comments

Using adult cam sites to host your webcam shows can be convenient, but there is another avenue. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been doing this for a while, one of the first steps you should take in getting ahead financially with your webcam business is looking at reducing the expenses. One such avenue is performing your shows via an instant messenger (a.k.a. “IM”) rather than through a host site or third party plugin.

camshow_im
Streaming your shows through an IM is free and also very easy to integrate into your site or blog. You would only need to create a separate page to list your IM handles (or usernames). If you do choose to use an IM to host your webcam shows, you should try to ask a few questions before you start showing any skin.

First off, ask him where he found you – you don’t want to accidentally forward him to the wrong adult cam sites if you’re signed with more than one. It will also help you know where to send him to pay for each session. Enquire as to what he wants to see you do BEFORE payment so you know you’re comfortable with his request. Also, try to avoid him asking “what would you do to me?” before you’ve received payment as many guys use your description to stimulate their masturbation and won’t go into private chat.

Unfortunately you can’t stop anyone from recording your shows however programs like Manycam can help you discourage them from recording the session – they allow you to put your site name over your video, watermarking it and making it less appealing to “resell”. Another way is using Splitcam, which can put his real email address or name over your image, again deterring him to record it (unless it’s for his own viewing later). Even if he does upload it onto a tube site or other site, if your domain/site name or username is on the video, you would have passively enhanced the awareness of your webcam business to more traffic (more surfers)!

Overall, using an IM to stream your cam shows is a great way to start out and get comfortable in front of the cam, as well as an easy, inexpensive way to stream shows independent to adult cam sites.

Getting Paid As an Independent Webcam Model

by Alex Shwarz on June 4, 2009 · 1 comment

If you’re just starting as a webcam model and don’t want to proceed with a cam host (e.g. imlive, livejasmin etc) or you want break away and run your own cam site, you will need a method to collect commission from your members. The easiest way to get an income as a webcam model without a host is by subscribing to a payment processor.

Cam Girl Payment Processor

Keeping in mind it may take up to two weeks to get approval from a processor, you will need to check if your chosen processor permits adult sites to be processed. Having a payment processor (as opposed to running through paypal, epassporte or other monetary account sites) integrates a payment gateway into your site making it easier for the surfer to give payment and organizes your earnings into a single check per pay period rather than have it spread over different sources.

The most popular adult payment processor available at the moment is Epoch. Not only is Epoch a reliable payment processor but it also offers an email collection option, allowing interested surfers to receive email specials and announcements from you. Epoch gained their popularity from not only what they offer their clients but also the lack of quality competition. CCBill, for example, is often complained about by models that use it.

In the end, it is your choice which processor you choose and shopping around to find the one that gives you what you’re looking for is a good way to start.

Different Cam Show Locations

by Alex Shwarz on May 20, 2009 · 2 comments

While most webcam models will stream their webcams in their bedrooms, setting up in other rooms in the house can be a great advantage to other models in a host system and is often much more entertaining for the client and yourself. Variety is the fruit of life – and that goes for cams too! Obviously walking around the house with a cam is not likely unless you’re pre-recording so choosing your room and setting things up beforehand is the key. Also, if you can with your host or on your own site, make an announcement about your alternative location to get clients’ attention.

camgirl in bathroom

The bathroom is a handy and very adventurous location for a cam show. While doing a public or free cam session you can tease the surfers in a bathing suit or wrapped in a towel, then once in private chat, there are many utensils you can use! From running the water stream on your pussy, lathering yourself in soap or shaving for the average joe watching – to voyeur-type showering, pissing in the toilet and several other avenues. The bathroom’s quite diverse but always make sure you’re comfortable doing what they ask before you do it. Some clients also just like watching their webcam model ‘get ready for bed’ (shower, brush teeth, moisturize, hair etc). Always make sure you have a box just off cam with any toy or tool you could think of that you’re comfortable using. Clients don’t like to wait and pay for you to get back from another room.

cam-girl-in-kitchen

Next, the kitchen can be a playful room in the house. Setting up your cam in the kitchen can allow you to touch on food and role-playing fetishes. From rubbing food on you to cleaning or cooking naked or in lingerie, then finish off bending back on the table and playing with yourself.

If you live alone, have time when the house is empty, or have understanding housemates, you can virtually use any room in the house. However, if you have nosey neighbors, it’s best to avoid doing anything in the back yard or patio.

Lighting and Environment Of Your Cam Show

by Alex Shwarz on May 12, 2009 · 0 comments

It’s important to have your lighting and environment correct to set the mood and portray you the way you want. What you’re looking for is proper lighting and a tidy and prop-handy background (not many could get off when you have a really messy bedroom).

Proper lighting is vital for your shows. Make sure you have a good light source behind the camera (so your client can see your face and body clearly). Often people just use their computer monitor if it’s bright enough and if the cam is beside or on it.  The lighting you have in the room (and in front of you) should show off your best bodily assets. You don’t want it too dark so the client can’t see you properly or it displays any unwanted features (cellulite, rings under your eyes, blemishes etc), nor too bright for the same reasons.

With the environment, a light wall background to contrast your darker bed against your light body is ideal, or a light bed if you have darker skin. If you have a large mirror, position it several feet behind on an angle (you can judge by taking delayed pictures from your cam if you don’t have someone to help you. This can do wonders for the time the client spends on cam with you and it also enables them to see behind and in front of you. It is especially effective when you’re bending over doggy style towards the camera (they get to see both sides of you).

All it takes is a little trial and error to get everything where you need it and is vital for allowing your client to see what they’re paying for.

Setting Up Effective Ad Placement On Your Site

by Alex Shwarz on April 30, 2009 · 0 comments

These tips can be applied to most sites including your home page, website tour and membership site.

Eye tracking tests have shown that the vast majority of people will concentrate on the top left hand corner of a website page for information (red spot on the picture below).

eye-tracking-385x434
Test it yourself – you read left to right so it is only instinctive to start from the top left to see what a site offers. With this kind of information in your hands, you can determine where to put the important information, including the most attractive aspects of your site – what you really want your members or surfers to pay attention to.

First impressions are the most important so ensure your site looks the most alluring from the top left of the page and out.

Think about what information or titillating aspects of your site you want to offer the surfer. Some examples may include: your unique interaction with them; private shows included in membership; special ‘limited time’ access price; live cam shows several times a week; or just something about you that makes YOU unique to other webcam models.

Anything you particularly would like the surfer or member to see, mention it above the first fold (the page area you see on your screen before you scroll down). Most people will scan this initial area of the page to see what catches their eye (and if nothing does, they may leave), so keep this in mind when you’re designing.

Place some clickable links on the bottom right hand side of the page as well, possibly with rollover colors or gifs (like the text changes to red from white when the cursor scrolls over). Most right hand mouse users will unconsciously leave their cursor there. This is another way you can get their attention.

Don’t underestimate all these little things. They add up very quickly. Any of them may become the key factor that makes visitor leave.

How the Economic Crisis Affects Webcam Models

by Alex Shwarz on April 9, 2009 · 0 comments

economic_crisis_camgirlThe world financial crisis affects all of us, especially the adult entertainment industry. Unfortunately most webcam models are performing almost double the hours to pull in the same amount of money they would have been getting before the crisis model.

As an example, a web cam girl at LiveJasmin made $3-4 a minute before the crisis. Now she works for $1.99 but with a lot less clientele coming through to get the hours up. This isn’t just because of people tightening their belts. Some members search and find models who get naked during free chat, hoping the tease will get them a paid private show. Unfortunately many people find a live naked girl is… “satisfying” enough.

Some members also think outside the box, research commission you’re getting and offer to pay you directly an amount slightly higher than the commission you make with your host (which ends up less than they would pay through the host) to watch you perform on Skype, MSN and other video IMs. This will get you more money, but check your host’s ToS allows or you may find you have no clientele source if they axe you (one of the reasons having your own site’s better).

Remember to keep thinking positively, perfect your skills, work on regular clientele because they’ll always return and if you have your own personal webcam site, reassure your members you’re one of a kind (maybe have several shows a week instead of a couple or one)! The economic recession isn’t normalized yet so think about using this time constructively – maybe build your own independent webcam modeling business! The webcam world is massive and there’s potential to do almost anything you want. The opportunities are endless!
